Rice & Shine is a nature-derived body exfoliator made with real rice powder (Oryza Sativa) that lifts dead skin cells and impurities without causing micro-tears. It is formulated to be the gentlest body exfoliator - it does not strip the skin of its natural moisture. Unlike regular exfoliators, Rice & Shine not only removes impurities but also nourishes the skin. High oleic Sunflower Oil immediately replenishes the skin's lipid barrier. Grapeseed Oil reinforces the barrier. Honey draws moisture back in as you scrub. The result: skin that's smoother, more even in texture, and genuinely hydrated, not just clean. Suitable for all skin types, especially dull, rough, or congested skin.

• Made with real rice
• Gentle on skin
• Non-stripping formula
• Naturally derived
• Dermatologist Tested
• Light natural rosemary aroma

Nourishes As It Exfoliates
Honey draws moisture into the skin as you scrub, while Sunflower and Grapeseed oils replenish the skin's lipid barrier — so skin feels genuinely hydrated, not just clean

Key Ingredients

Rice Powder

Lifts dead skin cells and impurities without causing micro-tears. Naturally contains allantoin, which soothes skin as it exfoliates.

Honey

A natural humectant that draws moisture into the skin while delivering antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits, preventing post-exfoliation dryness and irritation.

Sunflower Seed Oil

Exceptionally high in oleic acid, it hydrates without clogging pores and helps regulate sebum production, making it ideal for acne-prone and congestion-prone skin.

Grapeseed Oil

Lightweight and fast-absorbing, it is rich in linoleic acid, reinforcing the barrier without heaviness and leaving skin smooth and conditioned.

Vitamin E

Neutralises free radicals generated during skin turnover, supporting recovery and resilience after exfoliation.

Process of Bringing Rice & Shine to Life

Step 1

Most body scrubs promise smoother skin. What they don't tell you is that the gritty particles doing the scrubbing - walnut shells, apricot kernels, synthetic microbeads - are creating micro-tears in your skin every time you use them.

Step 2

Micro-tears are microscopic cuts in the skin's surface. They're invisible, but they trigger inflammation, compromise the skin barrier, and over time make skin more reactive and more prone to infection, not less.

Step 3

Rice powder is different. Its particles are uniformly fine and naturally smooth, they dislodge dead skin cells and impurities through gentle mechanical action without tearing the surface. It also naturally contains allantoin, which soothes skin as it works.

Step 4

But exfoliation alone isn't enough. The moment you remove dead skin cells, you've also removed part of the lipid barrier that holds moisture in. This is why skin feels tight and stripped after most scrubs.

Step 5

Rice & Shine addresses this immediately. High oleic Sunflower Oil, rich in linoleic acid, replenishes the lipid barrier the moment exfoliation occurs. Grapeseed Oil reinforces it. Honey acts as a humectant, drawing moisture back into the skin as you scrub.

Step 6

The result is exfoliation that leaves skin genuinely hydrated, not just temporarily smooth. Two problems solved in one step: dead skin lifted, barrier restored.

Frequently Asked Questions

The damage from most physical body scrubs comes from jagged, irregular particles such as walnut shell powder, apricot kernel, sea salt, and synthetic microbeads, which create microscopic tears in the skin surface, triggering inflammation and compromising the skin barrier over time. Rice & Shine uses real rice powder (Oryza Sativa), which has uniformly fine, smooth particles that lift dead skin cells and impurities through gentle mechanical action without tearing the skin. It also naturally contains allantoin, which soothes skin as it exfoliates. Apply in gentle circular motions, no hard scrubbing required or beneficial.

For KP and strawberry skin, the goal is to regularly remove the dead skin cell buildup that clogs hair follicles without creating micro-tears that worsen inflammation. Rice & Shine achieves this: rice powder physically lifts follicle-clogging cells gently, and Sunflower Seed Oil immediately replenishes the lipid barrier after exfoliation so skin is hydrated and not stripped post-scrub. For a more complete KP routine: use Rice & Shine once or twice a week for physical exfoliation, and use Velvet Spray Squalane daily in the same shower for ongoing plant-derived salicylic acid chemical exfoliation. The two products are specifically designed to work together.

Once to twice a week is optimal for most skin types. Daily exfoliation even with a gentle formula disrupts the skin barrier and causes sensitivity over time. In India's humid summer and monsoon months, sweat and pollution increase the need for exfoliation, so twice a week is appropriate. In winter when skin is drier, once a week reduces the risk of stripping an already moisture-deficient barrier. If you have very sensitive skin or eczema-prone skin, begin with once a week and increase only if your skin responds well. Always follow exfoliation with a moisturiser ideally Velvet Spray applied immediately in the shower after Rice & Shine.

Both, in one step. Most body scrubs only exfoliate; they leave skin feeling temporarily smooth but actually compromise the lipid barrier, causing tightness and dryness within an hour. Rice & Shine addresses this: the moment exfoliation occurs, high-oleic Sunflower Seed Oil immediately replenishes the skin's lipid barrier. Grapeseed Oil reinforces that barrier. Honey, a natural humectant, draws moisture back into the freshly exfoliated skin as you scrub. The result is skin that is smoother in texture and genuinely more hydrated after use, not stripped and tight like most scrubs leave it.

Yes, regular exfoliation is one of the most effective ways to prevent ingrown hairs. Ingrowns form when new hair growth cannot break through the skin surface because dead skin cells have accumulated and blocked the follicle opening. Using Rice & Shine once to twice a week particularly in the days before and after waxing or shaving. This removes this dead cell buildup and keeps follicles clear, reducing the likelihood of hair curling inward. For treating existing ingrown hairs (bumps, redness, dark spots), use Hibiscus Monkey's Ingrown Hair Treatment Oil as the targeted active product alongside Rice & Shine.

Yes, with the right frequency. In winter, reduce use to once a week rather than twice, and never skip moisturising immediately after i.e. apply Velvet Spray directly in the shower before rinsing, while skin is still wet from the scrub. Rice & Shine's formula specifically addresses the winter scrub problem: after rice powder lifts dead cells, Sunflower Seed Oil, Honey, and Grapeseed Oil immediately replenish the lipid barrier that exfoliation temporarily opens up. This prevents the tightness and dryness that follow most winter scrubs. The formula is also winter-proof unlike sugar or salt scrubs in thick paste bases, it does not harden or change texture in cold temperatures.

A loofah or scrub cloth exfoliates through friction and this friction is inherently unpredictable. The force applied varies, the surface of a loofah is irregular, and repeated use on the same area causes cumulative micro-tears in the skin's surface layer. Rice powder in Rice & Shine exfoliates through even, gentle mechanical contact: the uniformly fine particles lift dead cells without the inconsistent friction of a tool. Additionally, Rice & Shine delivers nourishing oils and honey simultaneously on the other hand a loofah provides no post-exfoliation nourishment. The rice powder also naturally contains allantoin, an anti-inflammatory compound that soothes skin as it works.
